Resumen

With an estimated one billion people affected by influenza each year (WHO 2019), and now the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic threating the health of many individuals worldwide, a number of public health measures – like regular handwashing, avoiding close contact with sick people, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and wearing face coverings – help to minimize the spread of infection and are already being implemented in many countries worldwide (CDC 2020 ). Just as important though is taking steps to support immunity, which helps to reduce the risk, severity and duration of infection.
